ABOUT SKY
Sibahle Sky Dladla is an African instrumentalist, a percussionist, marimba maker, a songwriter, singer and bow instrument maker from Gugulethu township in Cape town South Africa. Sky started African instruments by playing marimbas in high school 11 years ago, she fell in love and enrolled at UCT study African Music.
She has graduated the University of Cape Town with a Performance Diploma, an Advance Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma in African Instruments. She founded her own band Blackroots Marimbas in 2012.
Sky also teaches marimbas in the township of Gugulethu as well as the NGO Kronnendal Music Academy and Bishops Diocesan College.
MY WORK
Sky’s prestigious performances/achievements include:

• Jan 2016- Global Music Camp (GLOMUS) in Brazil.
​
• In July 2016 and July 2017, she toured Mozambique performing,
instrument building workshops on traditional Chopi instruments
with Matchume Zango.
​
• August 2017 - Toured Brazil for a month with Indigenous
Too, performing at events such as Cordao Dia De Ouro and
hosting workshops in Sao Paulo, Campinas and Rio de Norte.​
​
• November 2017 - Participated on the Music in Africa's Instrument building workshop, Johannesburg
​
• Dec 2017 - In residence with uMakhweyane maestro mamu'Bavikile "Mabhengu" Ngema
​
• July 2018 - Performed at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival with Blackroots Marimbas
​
• Aug 2018 - Toured Zimbabwe and learning more about the Mbira dza vadzimu and the Nyunga nyunga.
​
•June 2019 - Nzango Residency with Blackroots Marimbas in Maputo Mozambique
​
•July 2019 - African music presentation and performance at Dreaming Girls Conference in Johannesburg.
​
• Nov 2019 - Opening act for Freshly Ground at Mercury Live
​
• Current: Performing in Zolani Mahola’s trio band
